About

Tanya Smith CNM
My name is Tanya Smith. I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife, Menopause Practitioner, and the founder of Balanced Women’s Wellness based in Connecticut. I am a Midwife who has shifted focus from pregnancy and childbirth, to caring for women in the perimenopause/menopause transition and beyond. I also have a special interest in nutrition and exercise and how that impacts quality of life with aging. I am certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Nutrition Coach and Virtual Coaching Specialist. I am also a Women’s Hormone Therapy Specialist from the Heather Hirsch Academy and a member of the Menopause Society and hold their certification as a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. I personally have taken myself from being overweight and unhealthy, to achieving optimal health and even going on to win an NPC Bikini competition at the age of 47 in the throes of perimenopause! I have become obsessed with nutrition, fitness, hormones, and their impact on aging. I feel like I have cracked a code for optimal health, and I can’t wait to share what I have learned with as many women as possible! I have discovered that by implementing some small changes to your daily habits, and actively managing your menopausal transition, we can reduce the incidence of chronic disease and injury, dreaded weight gain and improve your quality of life, to ensure optimal health and longevity. There is so much misinformation circulating regarding the menopausal transition that has left women confused, scared, and suffering in silence, while their body’s under-go dramatic changes. I use an evidence-based approach to finding therapeutic treatments (hormonal and non-hormonal) for your symptoms, along with also implementing lifestyle changes to optimize your health through this transition.
