Leah Mawhinney, CNM, WHNP is the founder and owner of Chickadee Healthcare in Readfield, Maine. Her path to healthcare started in 2002 as a domestic violence advocate, where trusting women became her north star. In 2011, she became a birth doula with expertise in late term pregnancy loss, and in 2018 became a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. While in graduate school, she began teaching workshops on trauma-informed care and continues to enjoy teaching and lecturing on this topic. In recent years, she has been a guest lecturer for Yale University's Schools of Nursing and Medicine, Maine Family Planning, and the Maine Nurse Practitioners Association. Leah is a Maine native, growing up in the rural foothills of western Maine. She completed her undergraduate study at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts where she focused on nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and child development, and then spent a decade working in early childhood education before pursuing a career in healthcare. Her graduate work was completed at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She is a current and active member of the Menopause Society (NAMS), and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH). She currently lives in Mount Vernon, Maine.
